The fact that God listens to my prayers is a GREAT comfort to me! It is also a universal topic in many ways. But my latest single “You Listen to My Prayers” (a co-write with my producer Neal Merrick Blackwood) was born out of some much more personal circumstances!
Therefore I Tell You, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” – Mark 11:24

I haven’t always had faith in God. I used to believe everything in my life was up to me. If I succeeded, I was proud. If I failed- it was all my fault. Though I do not shirk the responsibility to do my best in life in all things, it is a HUGE relief to know that I am not all alone. In fact, God is with me every step of the way, lavishing His extravagant grace on me when He sees I need it and at other times allowing me to learn lesson from my mistakes.Â
One of the biggest tests of my faith was when I was facing infertility. The eight year journey till we finally had our twins Hannah and Caleb was heart-wrenching, but God showed himself to me through that heartbreaking time. -And He left me with the deep conviction that God listens when we pray!
And He gave me Caleb and Hannah! They are pictured on the video!
Other significant times when my anguished prayers were answered included: Praying for my eyes to be opened and my heart to soften when I was first seeking the Lord; For my voice to heal when I got nodes; Praying for God to lead me to my life partner- my now husband Ralph; For me to see my sin so I could repent different times; For patience as a teacher and as a young mother; For protection and healing for my family; for strength and wisdom and humility a thousand other times!
There have even been some times when God has listened and said “No” or “Not yet.”

Lyrics: “you Listen to My Prayers” c. 2023
By Julie Kinscheck & Neal Merrick Blackwood
VERSE:
What do you long for
What do you need
What have you cried out again and again for on your aching knees
Are you tempted to give up?
Not sure of his will?
Remember that persistent widow
And try again still!
CHORUS:
You listen to my prayers
My Jesus told me so
You promise you are there
Though sometimes I don’t know
But I’ll get back on my knees
‘Cause I choose to believe
That you listen to my prayers
And you will answer me!
VERSE:
The widow pressed the judge
Till he gave into her plea
Hannah prayed and prayed and prayed
Till she had Samuel on her knee
Oh, Father! In your love
Give me bread and not a stone
Comfort me, ABBA!
So I know I’m not alone!
CHORUS:
You will listen to my prayers
My Jesus told me so
You promise you are there
Though sometimes I don’t know
But I’ll get back on my knees
‘Cause I choose to believe
That you listen to my prayers
And you willÂ
BRIDGE:
I walk thorough the valley of the shadow of death
I praise you, Lord with my last breath
You lay me down in pastures green
I find my peace here on my knees
Though I walk thorough the valley of the shadow of death
I’ll praise you, Lord with my last breath
You lay me down in pastures green
I find my peace here on my knees
I find my peace here on my knees
CHORUS:
You listen to my prayers
My Jesus told me so (you promise, you promise)
You promise you are there
Though sometimes I don’t know
So I’ll get back on my knees
‘Cause I choose to believe
That you listen to my prayers
And you will answer me!
You listen to my prayers
My Jesus told me so
You promise you are there
Though sometimes I don’t know
So I’ll get back on my knees
‘Cause I choose to believe
To believe-
That you listen!
